It was eight years ago when the world got an emotional glimpse into Kristen Bell's love and adoration for sloths. However, she isn't the only one with a deep-rooted devotion to the furry, slow-moving animals.
A woman on TikTok had the best day ever when she was treated to a surprise sloth-petting session. As seen in one of her recent TikToks, user @dawnnmarie was blindfolded and presented with a "stuffed animal" that turned out to be a living sloth. Before she even saw the animals, @dawnnmarie was overcome with emotions. By the time she realized a little sloth had been placed in her arms, she was crying hysterically.
"Best day of my whole life and I just need more people to know that this happened," @dawnnmarie captioned the video, which has now been liked by more than 348,999 TikTokers.
Mascara tears stream down @dawnmarie's face in the video as she strokes the animal's fur. "It's so soft," she cried. "Oh my God."
Commenters were just as moved to watch the sweet moment as @dawnnmarie was to experience it. The video was flooded with comments from TikTok users who agreed that they would have had the same reaction if they had the chance to play with their favorite animals.
"I didn't want this video to end," one person commented.Â
Another wrote: "I'd cry if I held my favorite animal on my lap too it's an elephant however I might cry for a different reason."
The viral moment is reminiscent of The Good Place star Bell's meltdown during her 31st birthday when her then-boyfriend, Dax Shepard, surprised her with a sloth. While visiting The Ellen Show in January 2012, Bell opened up about her special encounter with the sloth—a moment she claimed that she had been waiting her whole life for.
"I turned 31 this summer and [Shepard] said, 'I'm going to get you a present that no one else will ever get in their lifetime.' And I was confused and thought, 'OK,'" Bell told show host Ellen DeGeneres. "I had no context for knowing what it was."
Bell then said that on the day of her birthday, Shepard told her to go to the back room when their doorbell rang, signaling that her birthday surprise was near. The actor said as she made her way to the room, she immediately thought there was a sloth nearby.
"There's a sloth here. It's close. It's gonna happen," Bell recalled thinking.
She added: "I didn't know how to process that because my entire life had been waiting for this moment where I could get to interact—I'm serious—with a sloth."
Bell even shared the video Shepard captured as he entered the room where she was waiting; he found her in a fetal position, bawling her eyes out.
Bell and Shepard have tied the knot since the sloth encounter, and Shepard has even discussed the moment with DeGeneres. He appeared on the show in 2014 and admitted that though he had witnessed his wife cry hysterically a few times before, he surprised her with the sloth. He wasn't expecting her to have as big of a breakdown as she did. However, it was a fitting reaction considering all the trouble Shepard went through just to get the sloth to the house.
"What people don't know about that video is that at that time, it was nearly impossible to procure a sloth. They're not on every corner like they are today," Shepard joked. "There were like two guys in the country that had access to a sloth and they're very particular about what kind of homeowners insurance you have in case they attack somebody, who I guess would have to be in a coma to not be able to avoid getting attacked by a sloth."
