6 Life Lessons From a Sloth

6 Life Lessons From a Sloth

I recently spent some time with Wally, the Two-Toed Sloth at Jenkinson's Aquarium in Point Pleasant Beach. And realized we could all benefit from living more like him.

Spend time with this beautiful creature and you'll learn a thing or two about life.

1. Start Your Day with a Wave and Kind Word to Someone

We're all feeling a bit more isolated these days, so take a moment to look someone in the eye and give a nice, friendly wave...perhaps accompanied by a compliment. It'll do your own heart good and leave them smiling.

2. Lift Your Head Up High

Even if your life feels sometimes feels upside-down and out of sorts, try your best to pick yourself up and lift yourself up to face another day. Keep the faith that things will one day get better!

3. Let Your Hair Down

Every once in a while you need to take a day to allow yourself to be free. Enjoy yourself -- do something silly or wonderful like running down a hill in the park or getting a hot-chocolate piled high with whipped cream and sprinkles!

4. Slow Down and Be Patient

These two things are the biggest challenge for so many of us. But the moment I was next to Wally my breathing actually slowed down just from watching him. He...moves...so...slow. So don't be in such a hurry. Sometimes you just have to be patient instead of rushing. So take some deep breaths. Relax.

5. Ask For What You Want

Sometimes you have to be direct and stare someone down. If it's something you really, really want (as much as Wally here wanted his squash-bites) then you just have to make sure you stay the course until your needs are met. Even if it takes a while.

6. When All Else Fails, Just Hang On For Dear Life

There are times when you just can't control what happens in life. All you can do is hang on and ride it out. So get a grip. You got this.
