Sloths are easy to love because they look gentle, sleepy and wonderfully unbothered. But they are not just cute rainforest characters. They are highly specialised canopy animals, shaped by a slow diet, careful movement, strong climbing bodies and a life spent mostly among leaves. When we understand sloths properly, we also understand why healthy tropical forests need connected trees, safe habitat and patient conservation work.
