A local sloth has decided: The Kansas City Chiefs will win the Super Bowl this Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Most people know Feb. 2 as Groundhog Day, a wonderful time when a rodent predicts how much longer winter will last, when we rewatch the eponymous Bill Murray-Andie MacDowell classic, and when we reminisce about how a New York City groundhog was allegedly killed by the mayor.
Since winter isn't much of a thing in Texas, our mammals predict other important events, like the Super Bowl. A two-toed sloth at Galveston's Moody Gardens called Carlton, supposedly with excellent NFL knowledge and divine superpowers, was given football-shaped treats with vitamin supplements to choose from, each representing the Chiefs and the Bucs.
The food-motivated sloth forecasted a 2-0 win for the Chiefs with the slow swipe of his snout. You can catch up on the action in Moody Gardens' video recap.
If Carlton's guess is correct, Moody Gardens will give free access to the Rainforest Pyramid to anyone who purchased a ticket to the Aquarium Pyramid, Monday through Thursday until the end of February.
